On Sunday we had a Baptism and celebration of faith Service with 2 people being baptised. It was an opportunity to share stories of what God had done in people’s lives especially as we had started a new course called Purpose Driven Life. This course is the next step after Alpha when someone has explored the Christian faith and now wants to know their purpose as a Christian. As a church we are all going through this course and here are some stories about how it has impacted them.
“…I was eating and talking with people in the church that I had hardly spoken to before. I love the idea of bringing the whole church together informally to get to know each other better.” Mike Pistol
“I am on a journey of discovering what it means to be a Christian and so I look forward to attending Purpose Driven Life and Alpha. I am enjoying getting to know God as my heavenly father. I feel that by getting involved I have gain friends, a big family and I’m growing my relationship with God.” Leon (Youth)
“Purpose Driven Life has really started to help me …a lot in my everyday life because even though people throw insults at each other at school, I feel like Jesus has just helped me keep my cool and given me the strength to get through things…. I have felt an intimate relationship with God. I now feel like a much more developed Christian, who is ready to serve, love, share, belong, and suffer with the Lord.” Ben (youth)
“I have a rare condition that affects my whole body and especially my heart…The pain and bleak diagnosis made me feel depressed... I reached a point where I didn’t want to live anymore so stopped taking my medication and isolated myself believing that no one cared.
Purpose Driven Life, came at the right time for me…as it helped me to get connected to people during the week… I now know I am never on my own as God goes into the situations with me.
I am so enjoying reading the PDL book that …I can’t put the book down! I think everyone should read this book and do the course as it has changed my life.
The most impacting day of PDL was reading that I was not an accident. I never knew my father and my origins were never spoken about as a mixed race child in a white home. I felt that I did not fit and I was once told I was born through an abusive, tragic situation. This stuck with me and I will never know if this was true but through PDL I know that I was not an accident to God and although I never knew my father, God is my good father and I am loved by Him. I was born with a purpose and I now feel that I have something to give. I have started helping with Richard and Judith visiting the old people’s home in Stoneleigh. I am now also helping on the Home Team on Sunday mornings at church and I am a CAP befriender. PDL has helped me to know who I am, accept His love and to be who God created me to be.” Sharon Manwaring
Isn’t it great to be family together sharing our stories of God’s faithfulness to us in the highs and lows of life and that He is close, loves us and rescues us even when at the time we cannot see it. I hope that these accounts encourage you that no matter how hopeless a situation can get that we have a God of HOPE that saves us. God loves us even when we mess up as his love is unconditional. He made us to love us which is the main purpose we have looked at in the course Purpose Driven Life. As we have just looked at our second purpose being part of God’s family, it is important to do life together. I was so inspired personally by the level of openness and I encourage you to do the same as it’s only by being honest and sharing deeply that we are better able to support one another as a family should, reflects God’s grace and spur each other on in our walk with God.
